Now I have to admit that I have had a week off from blogging etc. I had to deal with a whole pile of paper (yes, that’s right that white flappy stuff) forms in the real world and speak to real people and everything!!
Before I had my little break in the real world I did have a go at embedding other media, well as much as one can on a blog that won’t allow you to embed media! Just link to it, hah! Every site seemed to want my email address, blog site, open a new account with us, leave us your credit card details but we promise we won’t use them, grandmother’s maiden name… and so the list went on. I swear if I set up all of these accounts I would need some sort of inventory account just to keep track of all of them with their logins, passwords, and even their addresses. So I have to admit that I just couldn’t be bothered doing it. Some of the stuff could be quite useful but….. I think I have a bit of trouble because I am simply fooling around with the technology and it is not directed at anything more than me learning about this stuff and what is out there. Personally I think this is pretty important but I don’t seem to have quite the same impetus to load my blog up with stuff.
So I am coming back to have a go at widgets. Now I struggled a bit with these earlier on and I have to say that I am not doing much better now. some widgets are great and I think they would be great additions to class blogs or library blogs. I loved the idea of a dictionary widget. It looked great, and so responsive. Just type in the word and up came the definitions. Fantastic – I’ll have that. I followed all the directions about copying code etc and it worked – well, sort of. Instead of getting the cute, useful little box that I had seen on the widget website I got a link to some site to do with university degrees and I couldn’t seem to find my little dictionary box at all. So I removed that one. Some others that I tried simply don’t work. I copy the code and nothing, NOTHING appears on the blog. Is it because I have got the freebie blog? Whatever, it is really frustrating and very difficult to see whether you are setting things up correctly or not.
I am now trying to have a go at categories and tag clouds and so I am writing this post to have a go at that. Bet you wish you had known that at the beginning! So stayed tuned folks….
